Monday July 20th was Colombia's independence day. We had a fairly relaxed day. We had breakfast while attempting to watch the parade in Bogotá on tv. (Attempting, since the signal wasn't working and so it kept going in and out). It was interesting cause there were helicopters with lines hanging from them on which there were people holding up the Colombian flag! These people go all out to show their flag.

Since it was independence day, we decided to leave early on in the day so that we would'nt get caught in traffic. Since there was no reason for the grandfather to return to Bogotá since his real home is in Fusa, we went to the bus station. I, once again, was inable to sleep. Once we got back to the apartment, Hilda decided to make us an "American" meal. She decided to make spaghetti and asked Sally and I what ingredients she should buy. Since Sally is normally a vegetarian (which is hard to be in Colombia, so she eats meat but prefers chicken), she decided to make spaghetti with chicken. I didn't see exactly how Hilda made the meal, but I did see that the tomato flavor was made by grating a tomato into the rest of the sauce. I've noticed that tomato sauce and tomato paste are just not a thing here. There's "salsa de tomate," which translates to tomato sauce, but is really just ketchup. So it definitely didn't look or taste like any spaghetti that we've ever had before, but it was good! Even better, it was accompanied by jugo de lulo. (Once again, lulo is similar to passion fruit) I love having fresh juice with tropical fruits!

The rest of the day was just us chilling. Not too eventful! I'm pretty sure I just drew the rest of the day. Sally had a shirt from the band Kutless that had a hot airballoon on it and the ballon was a globe. It inspired me to draw the same thing haha, but of course, in my own way!

One interesting thing, even Google recognized that it was independence day! (Although I doubt this was the google drawing in the US)

(Colombia had the largest amount of orchids of any other place in the world.) The orchid in the photo is the national orchid of Colombia. It's scientific name is Cattleya trianae, the second part was named after the Colombian naturalist José Jerónimo Triana. It's also known as "May flower" or "Christmas orchid." It's "endemic" to Colombia, so I'm not sure if it grows anyplace else. (Thansk wikipedia for this information! :P )

Oh, and enjoy another photo of Fusa, this one was taken by Juan Davíd and was not taken from the internet like the other ones! :P
